What is an External Facilitator?
An External Facilitator is a consultant who has significant experience in the education industry who will provide coaching, training, and guidance in formulating and implementing School Improvement programs. Called different things in various states, the External Facilitator assists the schools in meeting state and federal mandates for No Child Left Behind (NCLB)
External Facilitators will assist educational groups including teachers, administrators, parents, community and district personnel in addressing school reform issues, by reviewing and analyzing existing data, building consensus, negotiating causes and effects and establishing realistic and attainable goals for improvement. Facilitators will help to ensure that the "Gold Standard" is applied in choosing scientifically based reform models and strategies.
Taking advantage of this outsourced facilitation relieves some of the burden on the schools in reform. Rather than being forced to reinvent the wheel in each school, site administration and faculty can rely on the body of investigation and experience that EdSmart has gathered through each of its consulting and facilitation roles.
Arizona has established a set of 'minimum' qualifications to be recognized as an external facilitator. An External Facilitator must be highly qualified in education and consulting (See the ADE qualifications).
Whether or not your school or district has been labeled as "underperforming", EdSmart can assist in researching, choosing, implementing, and evaluating your reform efforts.
